The Champlain Photo Wedding Photography "style" -
When we shoot a wedding we pride ourselves in trying to "stay out of the way". Our goal is to
blend in and record the event without you even
knowing we're there. The only exception to this rule is when
shooting your formals. We feel that good direction by the
photographer during this process is very important. If done correctly, the
formals can be done in an efficient manner that will allow you to move forward with the rest of your wedding
day while still capturing great photos of the wedding party. During the
reception we try to capture candid photos of your guests being themselves in a
relaxed non-posed manner. The best reception shots come from people just being
themselves. With that said however, weddings are usually a rare time when
family and friends who live far apart are together. Whenever we shoot a wedding
we encourage you to let your guests know that we are more than willing to take
families or groups of friends aside to shoot family portraits at the reception ( at no extra cost
).
The best word to describe our approach would be flexibility. We have many time tested techniques and ideas that we use to shoot weddings but ultimately what we try to do is capture the look and feel of each unique event. Over the years I've learned that what one wedding couple wants is not necessarily what another couple is looking for. We've shot weddings that have ranged from shooting lots of formal posed shots to weddings with no posed shots at all. It's your day and your photos. You're the boss. Thru our meetings prior to your wedding we will work with you to come up with exactly what your looking for. If you're not sure exactly what you want we can help. We provide you with a list of "standard" photos taken at most weddings. You can use that as a guide to check off things you do or do not want.
The bottom line is that I care about your wedding photos. I'm the person creating this web page, I'm also the person that will meet with you prior to your wedding, shoot your wedding photos, develop your photos, and then have to look you in the eye when delivering your final prints. Making you happy during that final meeting is my goal.
Although we shoot
digitally, the prints you receive will be real photographs developed in real
photo chemicals. Why is this important to you ?
I have been working in the photo industry my entire adult life
including working in a photo lab over the last 20 years. I have worked with both
film and digital processes. Up until recently I would not have recommended the
digital process over traditional film but recent advancements have changed
things dramatically. The big advancement for the digital process came when
equipment was developed that allowed digital files to be printed on the same
exact chemical based machine as a traditional 35mm negative. Picture a traditional "one
hour" photo machine that has been adapted to take a digital file just the
same way it would take a negative. A digital photo can now be created using
traditional photo chemicals. The result is a regular photo printed on Kodak
paper that will not fade. When combined with a high end digital camera the
result is a print that is stunning and one that you cannot tell if it came from
a negative or digital file. This is the process we use at Champlain Photo
to develop your wedding photos.
If you stop by we would be glad to let you look at some samples so you
can see for yourself how great they look.
The real magic of digital takes place after the
wedding....
The digital process allows for an unlimited amount of airbrushing ( provided at
no extra cost ! ). Blemishes on faces ? No problem. A great formal shot but
someone's eyes are closed ? No problem. A hair out of place ? No problem.
Did you want some photos black + white ? No problem, any photos we shoot can
be made black + white or color and you can decide after you've
seen the proofs !
Basically with the digital process the amount of editing that can be done
after the wedding is staggering. The computer program we use is the same one
major magazines use to airbrush models and the amount of "airbrushing"
that can be done is virtually limitless. The most common editing we
do is removing blemishes. This can include everything from acne to a bad
sunburn. Other common editing effects we offer include altering backgrounds or
creating a soft "blur" effect around a subject. For
example if we capture the perfect formal shot but for some reason there happens
to be something in the background that you don't like we can remove it. Another
common use of the airbrushing is in large group shots if someone has their eyes
closed we can transfer that person's eyes from another photo. The result is an
altered photo that will look 100% natural.
There are also other more artistic airbrush techniques that we can do. One
example is an effect that allows part of a photo to be black+white and the rest
in color. We did a job like that for a Bride who had the idea of a shot of her
being in black and white but her flowers remained in color. It made for a very
unique and stunning photograph. Please check back shortly and we will have some
samples of these effects on this page....
